Beachaven Vineyards and Winery in Clarksville, TN

At least once a year, we travel to Clarksville, TN to visit my in-laws. In the area, not far from where they live, is a local winery which we have visited a few times over the years. This year we decided to make another trip, and the day before Thanksgiving we went for a wine tasting at Beachaven Vineyards and Winery in Clarksville, TN.

Being the day before Thanksgiving, the winery had a constant stream of locals coming in to purchase their favorite wines. While most knew exactly what they wanted, a few joined us at the tasting table to sample new batches or to allow their visitors to enjoy a full tasting.

The Wines

All of the Beachaven Vineyards and Winery wines are made on site. However, not all grapes are grown at the vineyard. To produce the best wines, the vineyards purchase grapes from all over the U.S. Their philosophy is that grapes grow best when grown in the right climate so in some cases it’s better to purchase than grow their own.

In addition to having the typical grape-based wines, Beachaven Vineyards and Winery also produces a lot of other fruit and berry-based wines. Instead of grapes, the base of these wines is another fruit like blackberry, cranberry, cherry or peach.

Out of all of the non-traditional wines, my favorite was the Sparkling Cranberry. It was a great sparkling wine alternative, and the cranberry flavor made it pair well with any holiday meal.

The Tasting

A tasting at Beachaven Vineyards and Winery is $5 and include your choice of five wines. If you end up purchasing a bottle to wine that day, the $5 fee is waved.

The day we went, all wines that were available for purchase were also available for tasting which allowed us to pick from 27 wines.

After reviewing the list of dry, semi-dry, sweet, and specialty wines, I decided to taste the Classic White, Cabernet Sauvignon, Budbreak Blush, Tempo, and Sparkling Cranberry. I was also able to take a sip of the Gov’s Select, Merlot, and Cranberry from my husband’s tasting set.

While my go-to wine is always a dry red, tastings are the perfect time for me to be adventurous. As always, this proves to be a great decision as I get to try so many great wines that I would be hesitant to buy without a sample.

Of all the wines we tried that day, I was only not a fan of two. The Budbreak Blush was a little too fruity for me, and the Cranberry was too sweet for my taste buds. However, the Sparkling Cranberry was AMAZING! As we were told that the bubbles toned down the sweetness and they were right. We ended up buying two bottles to enjoy with the family over Thanksgiving dinner.

Military Support

With Clarksville being the home of Fort Campbell Army base, the winery has a close relationship with the 101st Airborne Division. Specialty wine labels featuring the units of the 101st can be added to select wines.

The winery has also hosted the Welcome Home Veterans events which feature a Field of Honor® display of a hundred U.S. flags and a Traveling Vietnam Wall of remembrance.

Winery Events

Throughout the year, the winery holds many events. Their most popular event is Jazz on the Lawn which takes place on select dates from May to October.

During this event, visitors can enjoy live music from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. While wines must be purchased from the winery and no other outside alcohol is allowed, patrons are encouraged to bring food, blankets, and chairs to make it a picnic.

Be sure to check out the Beachaven Vineyards and Winery website for all upcoming events.

Hopefully soon we’ll be able to be in town during this event! Until then, we’ll just have to enjoy the Beachaven Vineyards and Winery wines either during a tasting or at home. We’ll be traveling through the area again soon, and I hope they still have the Sparkling Cranberry wine in stock so I can take a few bottles home!
